What you need
- A Steam Frame headset and its controllers.
- A Windows PC with Steam and SteamVR installed.
- A working connection between the headset and that PC.
- The extracted HONSVR Eye Tracking Tool download.
This download uses SteamVR on the PC. Regular Steam alone is not enough to run the test in your headset.
How to test eye tracking on Steam Frame
1. Download and extract the tool
Download the Windows ZIP, right-click it, and choose Extract All. Keep the extracted files together. You will launch the tool using Start-Test.cmd after connecting the headset.
The package also includes START-HERE.html, an illustrated guide you can open on your PC.
2. Connect Steam Frame and check SteamVR
Start SteamVR on your PC. In the Steam Frame Steam menu, select this computer and connect. Wait for SteamVR to recognize the headset before continuing.
In SteamVR settings, confirm that SteamVR is the current OpenXR runtime. If it is not, choose Set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime. Depending on your SteamVR version, this may appear under OpenXR or advanced Developer settings.
Next, open SteamVR Settings → Steam Link → Share eye tracking data to other apps on this PC. Enable this option if you agree to share eye tracking data with PC applications. The tool needs access to that data to show your gaze.

3. Open the tool and check the green cursor
Double-click Start-Test.cmd in the extracted folder. If you opened the tool before connecting the headset, select Recheck connection in its PC window.
Put on Steam Frame, adjust it comfortably, and close the Steam menu. Look around with your eyes. The green cursor should move with your gaze.
If the view needs repositioning, face forward and press B on the right controller before starting.

4. Press A to begin
When the tool is ready, press A on the right controller. Look at the center of the white target and follow it as it moves. Keep your head comfortably steady and the Steam menu closed.
At the end, the tool shows a brief completion screen. If it asks you to retry, follow the on-screen guidance and begin again when you are ready.

If the green gaze cursor does not appear
First, check that SteamVR recognizes your headset and that eye tracking sharing is enabled in its Steam Link settings. Wear the headset, close the Steam menu, and return to the tool. Follow any calibration or access prompt shown by the headset.
If the program appears only on your PC, check the OpenXR runtime setting and select Recheck connection. If the A button does not respond, you can use Start measurement in the PC window.

Steam Frame prescription lenses and eye tracking
Eye tracking is a practical consideration when choosing prescription lens inserts. You want to bring your vision correction into the headset while continuing to use its eye tracking features.
In our comparisons on a real Steam Frame, we observed no noticeable impact on eye tracking with HONSVR prescription lenses installed.
HONSVR prescription lenses for Steam Frame are made to your distance prescription, with each eye customized separately. They let you use the headset without wearing your everyday glasses inside it. The inserts are made for Steam Frame only; the headset is not included.
You can run the free tool with your inserts fitted to check how eye tracking responds in your own setup.
